At 23, Vera drifts through life partying with friends and dreaming of solo travel. An accident leaves her an amputee in a wheelchair, profoundly changing her relationship with her body and her former life. At a rehabilitation center, she meets Xander, 22, a wheelchair user since birth and an aspiring stand-up comedian. Through him and his circle of friends, Vera discovers a different way of living with disability and must find her own path between who she was and who she is becoming.

Born in 1988, Mari Sanders is a Dutch writer and director. Across short films, documentaries and television drama, his work consistently explores disability culture, identity and the search for belonging. He is the artistic director of Wild Lam, a talent program for disabled actors and artists. His filmography includes “Rue Des Invalides” (2012), “Sync” (2013), “Go Daan Go!” (2014), “80% Disabled” (2017) and the documentary series “Wheelchair Roadmovie: Over the Thresholds of Europe” (2019). “Stand Up” is his debut feature film.
