Ágnes Kocsis was born in Budapest. She majored in Polish Language and Literature, Aesthetics, and Film Theory at Eötvös Lóránd University and received an MA degree in Film Direction from the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest.
Her short films have been screened at numerous festivals, with “A virus” sharing third prize in the Cinéfondation section at the 59th Cannes Film Festival. Her first feature film, “Friss levegő”, was screened in the Semaine de la Critique at the same Cannes edition and was nominated for the European Film Academy's Discovery Award in 2006. Fresh Air has played at over 80 international film festivals, winning 14 prizes.
Her second feature film, “Pál Adrienn”, won the FIPRESCI award in the Un Certain Regard section at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival and garnered 20 awards. Her latest feature, “Eden”, premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam – International Competition and is distributed by Netflix.
She received the Béla Balázs national award in 2011 for her contribution to film.
